As you’ve read in the title and heading, spoiler alert, I was helicoptered out of my hike by calling Search and Rescue in Southern Utah after severe dehydration started to set in.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of trees. Growing up at the base of the rocky mountains, I had grown accustomed to the sight of Pine, Fir, and Aspens surrounding me. But as the plane that had been my home for the last six hours started to descend and the island came into view, the mossy rock stretched out to the horizon dotted by groups of beautiful purple flowers.
